Banks can no longer finance cluster bombs
We have achieved the prohibition of financial investment in cluster munitions, anti-personnel mines and other weapons with similar effects.

The Delàs Center of Studies for Peace, as an entity which has long promoted the campaign Stop Inversiones Explosivas (Stop investing in Explosives), we have the enormous satisfaction to announce that the campaign has been a success. We’ve achieved the total explicit prohibition of all financial investment of cluster bombs, antipersonnel mines and weapons with similar effects.
Thanks to the success of the Stop Explosive Investments campaign, Spain is now the 10th country to prohibit investments in cluster munitions.
The July 28th Law 27/2015, which modifies the Law 33/1998 prohibiting antipersonnel mines and arms with similar effects, now also prohibits investments in these arms.
The passing of this law is a new step forward in disarming and peace. Now, in addition to prohibiting the use, production, sale, purchase, or possession of cluster weapons as defined by a global agreement in 2008 signed by 107 countries, Spanish financial organizations will no longer be able to finance the production of these terrible weapons in countries which have still not signed the treaty.
The Delàs Center will continue working to denounce investments in the arms industry from the campaigns Banca Armada (Armed Banks), Disarm BBVA, Disarm BBVA, Disarm CaixaBank and Disarm Sabadell Bank.
Meeting between the campaign Caixabank Sin Armas and Caixabank
On July 21, 2015, the entities that promote the campaign CaixaBank Sin Armas and Banca Armada met with the Corporate Social Responsibility head and the vice-president of CaixaBank.
Following the intervention of its representatives during the shareholder meeting, the campaign “CaixaBank Arms Free” received an invitation for a meeting the financial institution. The entities forming the campaign “CaixaBank Arms Free” decided to attend the meeting, with the aim of reiterating the facts that motivate the claims made during the shareholder meeting related to the bank’s arms investments.
Among other issues, it should me mentioned the disagreement stated by CaixaBank when it comes to the qualification of certain companies as part of the military industry, such as INDRA, which is considered by all the centers for peace and security studies and even by the military industrial sector itself as a company that devotes 20% of its production to Defense.
Anyhow, we see as positive for the impact of the campaign the exchange of opinions with the financial institutions. Nevertheless, the real and only significant step from the side of the banks would be to stop investing in any kind of weapons and do so in a credible and verifiable way. While CaixaBank continues financing military industries we will keep denouncing it, not only during shareholder meetings but also every day through actions raising citizen awareness.
El Centre Delàs s'incorpora com a entitat membre de l'IPB (International Peace Bureau)
El Centre Delàs s’incorpora com a entitat membre de l'Oficina Internacional per la Pau (International Peace Bureau, IPB) en la recerca pel desarmament, la gestió de la despesa militar i la Pau. El Centre es suma així a les més de 300 organitzacions de 70 països diferents, que constitueixen la xarxa mundial de l'IPB.
La projecció internacional de l'IPB (guanyador del premi Nobel de la Pau al 1910 i des dels anys 70 consultor en el Consell Econòmic i Social de les Nacions Unides) confereix al Centre Delàs una excel.lent plataforma d'intercanvi d’experiències i de coneixement amb l’objectiu comú d’un món sense guerres. L’IPB, amb seu a Ginebra, concentra la seva labor d’investigació al voltant del desequilibri entre despesa militar i despesa social, les armes i el seu impacte en les comunitats així com altres temes relacionats: abolició nuclear, comerç d'armament, educació i cultura per la pau, militarització de l’ajuda al desenvolupament, seguretat ciutadana, impacte militar sobre el medi ambient i el canvi climàtic, o qüestions de gènere i drets humans al voltant de la pau.
D'aquesta manera el Centre Delàs s’afegeix com a entitat activa en els diversos projectes de l’IPB per tal d’unir esforços en la recerca per la construcció d’una societat desarmada, pel foment d’una ciutadania pacífica i per la construcció d’un món sense conflictes armats.
El Centre Delàs d'estudis per la Pau s'estrena com a nova entitat membre de Lafede.cat
El Centre Delàs ja forma part de Lafede.cat com a membre de ple dret tal i com es va decidir en la seva última assemblea anual. D'aquesta manera ja són 114 organitzacions que composen la xarxa de Lafede.cat amb l’objectiu de promoure l’acció col·lectiva i treballar activament per la justícia social.

Declaració de AIPAZ sobre la qüestió catalana
AIPAZ, organització estatal que agrupa centres, instituts i persones que treballen en la recerca per la pau, ha emès un comunicat sobre el procés que viu Catalunya i la seva demanda pel dret a decidir. El comunicat, del que forma part el Centre Delàs d'Estudis per la Pau, posa èmfasi en que es tracta d'un conflicte polític que ha de ser resolt en l'àmbit del diàleg i el respecte mutu entre institucions, permetent que els diferents pobles de l'Estat, en aquest cas el català, puguin expressar el dret a decidir el seu futur en un marc de convivència i pau.
