A new visualization tool by Centre Delàs shows Spanish arms exports to countries in armed conflict
The Centre Delàs for Peace Studies has created a new search tool for data and analysis regarding arms exports to countries in armed conflict. The tool presents the figures on Spanish arms exports from 1995 to the present, according to data provided by the Ministry of Commerce in its report "Estadísticas españolas de exportación de material de defensa, de otro material y de productos y tecnologías de doble uso".
The objective of this visualization is to present information on which countries in conflict have received arms from the Spanish government according to the variables of the UCDP Uppsala database (Uppsala Conflict Data Program).
The relevance of this new search tool on arms exports is that criterion 3 of Law 53/2007 and the Common Position CFSP/944/2008 stipulate that export licenses for defense equipment to countries engaged in an armed conflict or a tense situation should not be authorized.
Data can be displayed in table and map format and are downloadable in different formats, thus facilitating researchers, journalists, professors and activists in their activities related with arms trade and conflict analysis.
