El Centro Delàs de Estudios por la Paz celebra el proceso en curso de negociaciones para alcanzar un tratado que prohíba las armas nucleares, con el objetivo final de conseguir su eliminación total. En octubre de 2016, la Asamblea General de Naciones Unidas acordó convocar una Conferencia en 2017 para debatir el texto del futuro tratado, que se está llevando a cabo en dos sesiones.

The military-industrial complex 'en marche' at EU level

Today the EC released new plans that favour the arms industry and blur the limits of its mandate regarding defence-related issues, paving the way for an over-influential European-level military-industrial complex.

Peace campaigners and the European Network Against Arms Trade warn against this further EC attempt to trivialize the production of weapons and enlarge insidiously its field of competences to defence. “These proposals will not lead to peace and security, but will only increase the profits of the arms industry and exacerbate the global arms race”, warns Wendela de Vries from Stop Wapenhandel.

Hoy, martes 23 de mayo se celebra el día mundial de acción contra la financiación de empresas productoras de bombas de racimo (Stop Explosive Investments global day of action – Stop investments in cluster bomb producers), dentro de la campaña Stop Explosive Investments -de la cual es miembro el Centro Delàs de Estudios por la Paz- y coincidiendo con el lanzamiento de la actualización 2017 del informe anual elaborado por PAX, “Worldwide investments in cluster munitions: A shared responsability” (Inversiones mundiales en municiones de racimo: una responsabilidad compartida).

On the occasion of the meeting of the Governors of the EIB and the ECOFIN Council on 23 May 2017, the European Network against Arms Trade (ENAAT), of which the Delàs Studies for Peace is a member, has sent a statement to the Ministers of Finance and EU ambassadors participating in these meetings.

ENAAT's concern lies in the possible paradigm shift within the expansion of the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI) and in the change of the EIB's lending criteria (European Investment Bank).

Pese a las campañas, movilizaciones y del apoyo de una gran parte de la ciudadanía, el Gobierno español no está cumpliendo sus compromisos y en mayo de 2017 sólo ha acogido a un 7,5% de los refugiados.

Ante esta situación, el objetivo de la Campaña es exigir que España cumpla su compromiso de acoger a 17.387 refugiados.

Con ello, exige también que se respete el Derecho Internacional, los Derechos Humanos y los compromisos asumidos. Una manera de exigir es mediante un contador de tiempo con cuenta atrás con los días, horas, minutos y segundos que quedan hasta la fecha final del 26 de septiembre.

Todas las entidades, organizaciones y plataformas que se suman a la iniciativa, comparten el contador de tiempo como un elemento común, y están de acuerdo en exigir que se cumpla el compromiso de acogida del Gobierno Español.

The Peace Boat arrived in Valencia this monday 15th of May, to promote a world free of nuclear weapons through the Project Hibakusha, a ship that travels the world with survivors of the atomic bombs of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and has the aim to give his witness and urge governments to support the prohibition and abolition of the nuclear weapons.

In an appeal to Members of the European Parliament and of EU member states' parliaments, peace campaigners and the European Network Against Arms Trade, from which the Centre Delàs d'Estudis per la Pau is an active member, are calling to say 'no' to the inclusion of arms industry research into the EU budget. The parliamentarians are asked to reject the Preparatory Action (PA) on Defence research which the European Commission wants to include in the new budget line, to be discussed from next week. “Europe should support peace not subsidize weapons” according to the campaigners.

After several years of persistent and discreet work, in particular from arms industry lobby groups such as ASD, and with the support of some Member States and MEPs, the EU is only a few steps away from starting to subsidize research for arms production using European public money. A Preparatory Action (PA) on Defence research written by an advisory 'Group of Personalities', more than half of them industry representatives, is included in the 2017 draft Budget. The arms industry is advising the EU to subsidize the arms industry. The Commission already has accepted this PA and the decision is now in the hands of the European Parliament and the Member States.

En el marco de la visita del Peace Boat a Valencia, el Centro Delàs de Estudios por la Paz ha promovido una declaración institucional a los grupos parlamentarios de las Corts Valencianes a favor de las negociaciones por el tratado internacional que prohíba en su totalidad las armas nucleares en todo el mundo.
