A broad alliance of civil society organizations across Europe, including those fighting in solidarity with Palestine, against militarization, for migrant rights groups and unions, launch an international campaign to call on Union Commissioners European Adina Vlean, Virginijus Sinkevicius and Yiva Johansson, to stop the use of drones made by the Israeli company Elbit Systems.

The international Peace Bureau, of which the Centre Delàs d'Estudis per la Pau is an active member and has its decentralized office in Barcelona, ​​is calling for a dramatic reduction in military spending in favour of health care and to satisfy the social needs. The Centre Delàs has joined this call to invest in social spending instead of militarization in the current context of global crisis.

The world’s oldest peace NGO, the Nobel Prize-winning IPB, has called on UN's General Assembly world leaders to send a message of peace and solidarity to the world as they address the global health emergency.

The European Network Against Arms Trade (ENAAT), of which the Center Delàs is an active member, is launching a European campaign to "Stop arming the Saudi led war coalition". The Day of Action will take place on March 25, and will gather actions organized by the partners of the European peace and disarmament network.

On March 19, the conference "Apartheid talks from South Africa to Palestine" was held by videoconference, due to the recommended security measures to reduce the spread of Covid-19. More than 1,000 people from 38 countries participated. 

The event, part of Anti-Apartheid Week, coincides with the International Day Against Racism on 21 March, which this year commemorates the Sharpeville massacre in South Africa when police opened fire on a peaceful demonstration protesting against apartheid, killing 69 black people and injuring 180 others.

We want to share with you this special report on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Centre Delàs d'Estudis per la Pau, in which we have compiled the main achievements and milestones of the Centre during these 20 years as well as some reflections from members, friends and donors.

The Centre Delàs d'Estudis per la Pau  took part in the annual meeting of ENAAT (the European network against the arms trade) that took place in Amsterdam on the 27th and 28th of February. Each country in the network presented the situation in its respective country in terms of arms exports to countries that are controversial because of their situation of conflict or social tension or human rights violations. In the case of Spain, Jordi Calvo, coordinator of the Centre Delàs, and Edgard Vega, researcher at the Centre, presented the data and conclusions of the analysis, which reveal that in the first half of 2019 alone, exports reached 2,413 million, 41.5% more than in the same period of the previous year.

African National Congress deputy, tribal chief and grandson of Nelson Mandela will share a table with decolonial activist Desirée Bela at the "Apartheid Talks: From South Africa to Palestine" event on March 19 at the El Borne Cultural Center.

Next March the Coalició Prou Complicitat with Israel and with the support of several entities and institutions of the city received the visit of the tribal chief and deputy of the ANC (African National Congress), Mandla Mandela in Barcelona. Mandela is a reference in the anti-racist and anti-apartheid struggle in South Africa, but also an open defender of the rights of the Palestinian people and of the campaign for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions against Israel.
